Meet the Staff

Chris Oehler - Lab Manager
Chris is originally from Iowa and received his BS in Psychology from the University of Iowa. He moved to Florida to complete his Master's degree in Experimental Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. Chris has worked on research in a variety of areas including Cognitive, Social, and Clinical Psychology in addition to Behavioral Neuroscience. When not in the lab, Chris enjoys spending time with his dog Bailey and working on home renovation projects with his wife.

Will Daniels - Exercise Specialist
Will is originally from Geneseo, Illinois. He received a BA in Biology from Central College in 2019 followed by an MS in Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of Iowa in 2021. He is currently an exercise specialist on the Extend research team, and he enjoys working with participants and helping them as they learn how to incorporate exercise into their lifestyle. When he is not in lab, his hobbies include reading, exercising, and playing piano.

Abby O'Deen - Exercise Specialist
Abby is originally from Morrison, Illinois and graduated from North Central College in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She is currently the Exercise Specialist for the Extend study. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, reading, and working out.

Kelsey Baller - Research Assistant
Kelsey received her BS in psychology and minor in Spanish from the University of Iowa. Kelsey plans on working with the lab to expand upon her research skills before heading off to graduate school. She has previous lab experience but is excited to work with the Voss Lab as a large portion of the research done is on aging. Kelsey is primarily interested in memory disorders and how individual’s skills and functioning change with age. She is interested in ways to provide an optimal but safe life for individuals as these changes occur and ways to prevent/reverse these changes. She plans to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology in order to become a neuropsychologist.

Jenna Springer - Undergraduate Research Assistant 
Jenna is a junior from Dubuque, Iowa and is majoring in Psychology and Health and Human Physiology. She is interested in how physical activity affects the brain in the long-term and how this can help to maximize quality of life. She plans to attend graduate school for health psychology or neuropsychology. In her free time, Jenna enjoys biking, spending time with friends and family, and playing snare drum for the Hawkeye Marching Band. 

Matt Sodoma - Graduate Research Assistant
Matt received his B.A. in Psychology in 2010 and MBA in 2014. He is interested in understanding the brain networks associated with learning and memory, and how lifestyle interventions improve memory or attenuate cognitive decline over short and long timescales. Outside of lab, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog, playing sports, and sci-fi & fantasy entertainment.

Michelle Voss, PhD - Lab Director
Michelle received her PhD in Psychology in 2011 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also received her B.S. in Psychology at the University of Illinois, and played varsity tennis for the Illini. She is from Cincinnati, Ohio, and outside the lab she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, running, and bicycling.
